recommends the 13" MacBook Pro Package.

The College of Engineering recommends the New 13" MacBook Pro package as a configuration that will accommodate most of the needs of an engineering student throughout a four-year degree plan while balancing performance, cost, and expected life of the device. Our package provides you a powerful long-lasting laptop, ethernet adapter, and  the choice of a 3-year or a 4 year Hardware & Accidental protection plan.

Xcode Download (An AppleID will be required*)
  1. At the bottom of your screen in the Apple Dock, Click on the App Store icon.
  2. An App store box will populate on the top right corner, type in the “Search” field “Xcode”.
  3. Locate the Xcode app, “Get” and then “Install App” to download Xcode.
  4. You may be prompted to input your Apple ID password.
  5. A loading bar will show the progress, once it is finished it will read “open” –double click on “Open”
  6. A License Agreement box will populate, click on “Agree”.
  7. You may be prompted to input your computers’ login password.
  8. A progress window will populate while it installs the components.
  9. Once the progress window closes the Xcode program is ready to use.
  10. To save the Xcode app to the Apple Dock (bottom of your screen): Navigate to your Applications Folder or Spotlight Search “Applications”. Locate the Xcode icon then click, drag, and drop into your Apple Dock. The Xcode app icon will remain on your Apple Dock for launching convenience.
  11. You must have an Apple ID and macOS 10.13.2 or later to download. If you do not yet have an Apple ID use the following link to create a new Apple ID. You may also create a new Apple ID utilizing the iTunes App Store.

PyCharm

  1. Click the following link PyCharm
  2. Under “Download PyCharm” make sure macOS is selected, then Click “Download” under the Community Lightweight IDE for Python & Scientific development option.
  3. The download should start automatically, no need to add your e-mail & subscribe.
  4. Navigate or Search for your “Downloads” folder.
  5. Double click on the icon that looks like a Grey Hard Drive and is named “pycharm-community- 2018.1.3.dmg”
  6. A window will populate, drag the software to the Application folder that is next to it. –Click on “PyCharm CE” hold then drag to “Application Folder” then let go.
  7. A window will populate showing the progress of the copying, once it’s done it will close automatically.
  8. You can now close the box that contained the software.
  9. Navigate to “Finder” (lower left of your screen on your dock) or Search for Finder. When the window opens look at the left hand column towards the bottom and find the “PyCharm CE” drive. Then click on the eject icon to the side of the drive or right click and select “eject ‘PyCharm CE’”.
  10. Navigate to your Applications Folder or Search for it, double click on the icon PyCharm CE. A notification will populate click “Open”.
  11. Another box will populate select “ok”, to not import settings.
  12. A License Agreement box will populate, first you must scroll all the way down then it will allow you to select “Accept”.
  13. A Usage Statistics box will populate, either preference is fine. You’re Done.
  14. To save the PyCharm CE to the Apple Dock (bottom of your screen): Navigate to your Applications Folder or Spotlight Search “Applications”. Locate the PyCharm CE icon then click, drag, and drop into your Apple Dock. The PyCharm CE icon will remain on your Apple Dock for launching convenience.

Anaconda Python 3.6 version

  1. Click the following link Anaconda
  2. Scroll down the page until you see “Python 3.6 version”.
  3. Click “Download”. (If prompted to put in Work Email and Role, Click “No Thanks”).
  4. Navigate or Search for your “Downloads” folder.
  5. Double click on the icon that looks like a box and is named “Anaconda3-5.1.0-MacOSX-x86_64.pkg”
  6. A verification message will pop-up, click “Continue”.
  7. At the bottom right of the installation box click “Continue” three times.
  8. A license agreement will pop-up, click “Agree”.
  9. At the bottom right of the installation box click “Install”.
  10. You may be prompted for your password, input password then click “Install Software”
  11. You will be given the option to install VSCode, this is not needed. At the bottom right of the installation box click “Continue”.
  12. At the bottom right of the installation box click “Close”.
  13. You will be prompted to delete the installation file, click “Move to Trash”. You’re done.
  14. To save the Anaconda-Navigator to the Apple Dock (bottom of your screen): Navigate to your Applications Folder or Spotlight Search “Applications”. Locate the Anaconda-Navigator icon then click, drag, and drop into your Apple Dock. The Anaconda-Navigator icon will remain on your Apple Dock for launching convenience.
